We're a bunch of coders building things together. Not (necessarily) hacking into things. Find a community to support your learning and learn from what others share!
If you're taking your baby steps, there's a lot of peer experience you can draw on. We're all self-learners, but we can point you in the right direction. It's a lot easier to walk the path when you know it's not one you have to walk alone!
If you're already taking freelance projects and contributing to open source projects, then we're a community who can appreciate your work and provide you both the peer pressure you need to keep it up, and the peer support to get you to the next level!
A hackerspace/makerspace is a community where people with common interests (like in coding, tech, art, etc) meet, socialise as well! And we all definitely started as one.though we mostly self-learn, but we do ask one another for some guidance esp when starting on something.
We declare a project and work towards it. That's our mode of learning. It ranges from "I'll follow this PHP tutorial and try to build a personal website" to "I'll create a drag and drop library for Javascript in React."
We're all geeks, and some of us can't stop talking, so you can't help but be up to date on all the tech news. Especially on AMD's latest chip *cough* Shaun *cough*.
Sometimes, hearing your friends tell you something you built is awesome is enough. Sometimes, you need ideas on what else to add. Sometimes, a bit of code refuses to compile and you just want to scream and someone needs to point out that you forgot a semi-colon. With love. ❤
